This letter to Marcus J. Wright from famed Civil War General S.D. Lee was written during his tenure as president of the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Mississippi. The letter regards a photograph "taken the last year of the war." The College was established February 28 of 1878 by a national land-grant from the 1862 Morrill Act. The college received its first class in 1880. Lee was the youngest Confederate lieutenant general in the Civil War, and delivered the pivotal demand to the Union to abandon Fort Sumter.
