About this collection

Date Range: 1937-1970's

John S. Savage (June 25, 1905 – June 19, 1989) began as a police reporter for the Bee-News, and carried a camera when he went out on assignment.  When the Bee-News folded, Savage was hired by the Omaha World-Herald, where he worked for 34 years.  Savage always used a 4x5 speed graphic camera to record events as Omaha grew.  He is known for his photo, “Spring coming in like a Lamb”, but Savage was also proud of his exclusive photo of Caril Fugate, partner to convicted murderer Charles Starkweather.
