About this collection

Byron Reed (1829-1891) came to Omaha in 1855 and went on to found the first real estate office in the City. As the city grew, so did Reed's fortune and he used that to collect rare coins, documents, books, manuscripts, currency, and other items of great historical importance. Upon his death in 1891, Reed gave his collection to the City of Omaha and its residents.
